Kinam 1 – Guangdong Maoming

In the humid red earth of Maoming, Guangdong, young Aquilaria sinensis trees of only five or six years stand quiet under the southern Chinese sun. They are not ancient giants. They are still slender, still full of green life. Yet into their living trunks a careful hand has drilled, inviting the tree to defend itself, to pour resin into the wound as its ancestors have done for centuries.

For one, sometimes two full years the resin slowly gathers, darkens, and deepens inside the wood. The tree is then felled at the peak of this tender formation. The chips are given only a light fermentation — just enough to coax the hidden sweetness and the soft animalic whisper that true Chinese Kinam is known for — before they are placed into the traditional hydro-still.

What rises is not merely oil. It is the quiet conversation between a young tree and time.

After a full year of aging the oil settles into itself: dark, almost black in the bottle, with a depth that feels older than the tree it came from. The opening carries the soft, tea-like elegance that only genuine Guangdong Kinam seems able to offer — a gentle bitterness that quickly turns warm and resinous. Beneath it lies a smooth, slightly creamy woodiness, touched by a faint, clean animalic shadow that never turns harsh. It is refined, contemplative, and deeply Chinese in character.

This is Kinam 1.

Not the product of ancient, centuries-old trees, but of careful modern cultivation married to traditional wisdom. Young wood, honest induction, patient distillation, and one year of quiet rest.
