The Scent Profile
The scent profile is opening of Indian spicy sour top note with jammy medicinal bitter sweet undertones. Oddly enough, the scent profile of this oil is so similar to Yunnan regions’ oil in China. Wild animalics, citrus peel, and woody tobacco earthiness.
1. **Animalic and Musky Base**: this oud is renowned for its strong, animalic notes. It can have a leathery, slightly musky, and almost primal smell, which gives it a raw, intense character. This is one of the more polarizing aspects of this oud, but it’s also what makes it highly valued among oud enthusiasts.
2. **Dark and Smoky**: The oil has pronounced smoky undertones, reminiscent of burning wood or incense. This smokiness adds depth to the scent and can sometimes give the impression of charred wood or embers.
3. **Resinous and Earthy**: this oud has a deep, resinous quality with earthy elements, creating a grounding aroma that feels rich and organic. This resinous profile can also have a tar-like or balsamic facet.
4. **Sweet and Balsamic Hints**: Despite its dark and heavy profile, there is often a subtle sweetness, sometimes with hints of dried fruits or caramelized sugar. This balsamic sweetness balances out the intense, animalic tones and adds complexity to the scent.
5. **Slight Medicinal or Camphoraceous Aspect**: Like many high-quality oud oils, oud can carry a faint medicinal or camphoric note, giving it a cooling, almost menthol-like edge in its initial stages, which fades as the oil dries down.
